A three-hospital regional health system with a mix of legacy and recently constructed clinical buildings. Client details are shared with permission in anonymized form.
The Problem
Staff in specific wings — concentrated in newer construction using low-E glass and reinforced concrete — reported unreliable clinical mobile device connectivity. An internal review also flagged that public safety radio coverage in parts of two buildings likely fell short of current fire code requirements.
Our Approach
We conducted an independent RF audit across all three campuses, measuring actual cellular and public safety radio signal strength rather than relying on the buildings' original design assumptions.
The audit confirmed both a clinical connectivity issue and a code compliance gap. We designed a neutral-host DAS retrofit covering all major carriers plus the public safety radio band required by the local fire marshal.
Because all three facilities remained fully operational throughout, installation was phased floor-by-floor and scheduled around clinical activity, with all antenna and cabling work confined to low-census windows.
The Outcome
The retrofit passed AHJ inspection on its first submission across all three facilities, with zero disruptions to active clinical units during installation. Clinical mobile device connectivity complaints in the affected wings dropped to effectively zero following cutover.
